Home Screen

The Home screen lets you begin the process of capturing a set of photos for a patient or a general category of interest, such as images that show examples of a specific disease.

The New section allows you to create a new group of photos, just select Patient or Photo Set to begin the process of creating a new photo set collection.

The History section displays a list of the photo set collections you’ve already created, and allows you to review the images, mark them up and possibly share them with others.

New Patient or Photo Set

When you select the New Patient or Photo Set list item, the photo set description screen appears.

In the Name field, fill in the name you want to associate with this photo set. Add any description of this collection in the Description field. Photo set collections remain on your phone indefinitely until you manually remove them. If you want EyeTakes to automatically remove older collections after 15 days, check the “Auto-delete photo set after 15 days” option.

If you simply wanted to create a new photo set collection, tap Done to return to the Home screen. If you want to continue on and capture photos for your collection now, tap the camera icon.

Photo Capture Screen

The Photo Capture screen lets you capture photos of your patient’s eye.

This screen displays a live video display so you can see exactly what you’re taking a picture of. The lower left corner of the screen contains a control to turn the iOS device’s torch light on or off. Tap the light bulb icon to turn the light on or off. Use the associated slider control to vary the light’s intensity. Note, a lower intensity can make the picture taking process much more comfortable for your patient.

The lower right corner of the screen contains a zoom slider so you can change the zoom magnification of the video feed.

When you’re ready to take a picture, tap the camera icon. The total number of photos taken for this photo set is always displayed at the top of the screen.

When you’re finished taking photos, tap Done to return to the Home screen.

View a Photo Set's Photos

Within the Home screen History section is the list of all the photo set collections created. To view the photos within a collection, tap it in the list.

The Photo Set screen displays all the photos that were added to the collection. Swipe up or down to see all the photos. Tap the blue colored name of the collection to go to the Photo Set description screen where you can change the collection’s name or description, and you can continue on to take additional photos by tapping the camera icon.

When viewing the photos in a Photo Set, you can select one or more of the photos by tapping each one’s associated checkbox and tap the Actions button at the bottom of the screen to take specific actions on the selected set of photos.

The Actions button gives you the ability to remove the selected photos, copy the selected photos to another Photo Set collection or share the selected photos to messaging, email, etc.

Delete Photos will remove the selected photos after first confirming that you really want to remove them.

Copy Photos To allows you to copy the selected photos to a different Photo Set collection. Note the destination Photo Set collection must already exist. When Copy Photos To is selected, a new screen displays that lets you select the destination Photo Set collection to receive the photo copies. It also lets you cancel the copy operation if needed. The Copy Photos To option is helpful when you’re capturing examples of a specific disease into one photo set collection for later reference.

Share displays the standard iOS sharing dialog that lets you choose which service (e.g. messaging, email, etc) to share the photos with.

View and Markup a Photo

To view a complete photo image, tap on the photo or anywhere within the list item containing the photo when viewing a photo set’s photos. The Photo Markup screen will appear showing the photo.

This screen displays the full photo image. At the bottom of the screen are two buttons that let you add arrow or text markup items to the photo.

To add an arrow markup item, tap the arrow icon and then drag on the photo. The arrow will be placed wherever you tapped and will be pointed in the direction you dragged.

To add a text markup item to the photo, select the ‘T’ icon, then tap on the photo where you want to place the markup item. Once placed properly, simply type in your note. Tap anywhere outside the text box to dismiss the keyboard and complete the note. To change the text of a note, tap on it and the keyboard will re-appear.

To move any markup item, simply tap and drag it to its new location. To delete a markup item, triple tap on it.

If a photo contains markup items, then whenever the image is displayed it will always display the photo along with the markup items. This way when you share a photo, any markup items will be included in the shared photo.
